About Us

One-to -One Grouping

The Mission of the Richmond Hospital Education Program (RHEP) is to continue our tradition as a nationally recognized program and to educate families, hospital and school personnel about the educational needs of children with acute illnesses, chronic health conditions, and/or disabilities.

We are a joint program funded, supported, and implemented by the Virginia Department of Education, Virginia Commonwealth University Health System (VCUHS), and  Richmond Public Schools to provide educational services to any students seen within the Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at VCU and supported clinics.   As a State Operated Program, the RHEP reports directly to the Virginia Department of Education’s Division of Special Education and Student Services.

The RHEP provides direct instruction and consultative services to students hospitalized or followed by supported clinics within the Children’s Hospital of Richmond as a part of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System.  Our services are provided free of charge and include direct instruction, testing, diagnostic assessment for students with disabilities, and more.  Click the Programs link for a brief listing of some of the many services we can provide your student during and after a visit to ChoR!
